Microsoft Unveils a Revamped, Speedier Version of Teams

Microsoft is introducing an upgraded version of Teams, its renowned platform for video conferencing, collaboration, and chat. This new iteration promises a quicker and more efficient way of working – something we could all benefit from.

Dubbed as the superhero among apps for both Windows and Mac, the new Teams boasts impressive speed – reportedly double that of the classic version. Additionally, it’s more efficient, consuming up to 50% less memory and disk space.

A fresh approach has been taken in redesigning Teams to enhance its simplicity and flexibility. Key improvements include:

  • Improved integration with third-party applications.
  • Enhanced capability for making phone calls outside of Teams.
  • Accelerated meeting entry – you’ll be joining meetings faster than you can say “not another meeting”.

The secret behind this performance upgrade is a technology that allows Teams to share resources with your browser, thereby reducing its memory and disk usage.

Initial tests have shown that Teams now loads twice as fast, joins meetings more rapidly, and switches between chats and channels with greater agility.

And it’s not just Windows users who will benefit – Mac users are also in line for this performance enhancement.

Microsoft is confident that this update will significantly boost productivity. The user interface has been refined, including a new “mark all as read” feature in the activity feed.

Moreover, the introduction of Copilot, an AI assistant, is set to revolutionise how we interact with our chats and calls. This tool can summarise key discussions, almost like having a personal assistant – minus the coffee runs.

However, for those in business environments, it might be wise to wait until initial bugs are ironed out. A few integrations, such as some key connections to MS Outlook are yet to be perfected from our testing. Once these issues are resolved, the new Teams is poised to become the go-to version.
